Newspaper Shot

When we asked some people to watch our film, many of them were unaware about the newspaper Horatio writes up. They said that the layout was unclear and many mistook the newspaper article for a diary. The one person who hinted that this could be an article suggested that we should change the layout to make it look more obvious that it was actually a newspaper article. Therefore, we changed and enlarged the title font, as well as making a column, and then including the write up inside that same column.

When our media teacher saw this shot, she too, thought it looked more like a diary rather than a newspaper, and questioned whether a diary would be a more sinister idea compared to that of an article. We thought about this but believed we should keep it as a newspaper article because a blog would mean that everyone knows about Horatio ` s obsession with Mia, even before the storyline has developed, meaning we would not be matching the convention of our genre. As a result of this, we kept our original idea of a newspaper article and improved it, as most of our audience had suggested.

This is the Rough Cut version of our film but without any sort of meaningful sound and music included. The reason behind our group deciding to make the rough cut and uploading it onto youtube.com was because we wanted to read other people` s opinions of the film, so if there was anything missing in the film, or areas that needed improving we could work on them. For example, camera movement, camera shots, angles, the mis-en-scene etc. By doing this, would enable us to meet the conventions of our genre (psychological thriller) and also the narrative. The questions we asked people to answer were:

1) Does the male look sinister?
2) Is it clear that he is following the female?
3) In terms of the storyline, how would you rate it? (5= great and 1=poor)
4) Does it suggest that the female is vulnerable?
5) Are there any other strengths and weaknesses?

The comments we received were:

· Except maybe the following could be more subtle, you'd think she would notice if he was following her like that.
2. yes, but it's only obvious at the end with all the stalker-ish pictures.
3. 3/4
4. A little, we don't really see much of her on her own.
5. Needs sinister/frightening music that would also help to make it clear that what's going on is something disturbing.

· 1. Yes
2.yes
3. 4
4. Maybe, she is on her own but we don’t see much of her
5. Maybe some music :)

· 1. I didn't find him sinister. Seeing he following her like this is too obvious, maybe he should be more subtle.
2. For me it was clear.
3. I'll go with a 3.5 because i lost track of events between thestreet’s scene & the pictures.
4. I can't really tell b/c we don't see her that much? But I don't think not knowing someone stalks you means that you're vulnerable.
5. Yep, some frightening music would be nice

·

Oh and, goodluck with this ;)

· For the music, you should have something a bit mysterious for the beginning, something that makes us feel ill at ease so it'll convey the idea that she is being followed.
Maybe some classical tune for the moment when he is in his office and than something going creepy again when we see the pictures

I hope this will help, and I think the idea of the mini movie is interesting

· Part 2:

4. Well we don't see enough of her to tell if she is

· 1. He did not look very sinister, but we could notice that there was something not quite right
2. Well not really, it looked a bit random, maybe if you had filmed from over the shoulder and for longer, like she changes direction and he follows her then it would be clearer
3.I would say 3,5 the storyline was a bit random in my opinion, I did not really understand what happened after the scene in the street until we saw the pictures at the end

· 1.yes
2.ya
3.5
4.yes
5.I agree, music would defiantly add epicenes and adding sinister music would make the character even more sinister :) hope I helped x

·

· 2. Yes, very

· 3. 3.5

· 4. Kinda because she is on her own

5. Music would probably give it more epicenesshink the video is good, there isn’t any real negative points, said that this rough cut music
